Lagun vs. Knockoff Products

What makes an Original Lagun® Table Leg Worth Every Penny (and why the dupes fail)?

The answer is simple: peace of mind and quality that performs. Lagun® has been around since the 1980s. While others are still figuring it out, our tolerances and plastic pieces have already been perfected. Precision engineering can’t be rushed or copied for less than half the cost and expect to have decent results or a happy customer.

Because the Lagun® brand is so iconic, it’s no surprise the marketplace has been flooded with cheap, CHINESE knockoffs. While they may look like the real deal at first glance, there is a massive difference between the quality and function of an Original Lagun® versus simply looking like one. Why waste your money on an inferior knockoff that doesn’t perform when you can buy an authentic Lagun® once that performs over and over again with ease?

We also offer all original Lagun® replacement parts, ensuring longevity. Parts are not available for all the different versions of the Chinese knockoffs. So, what do you do when you need a replacement part? You’re out of luck. Your only option is to just throw it away and start over. You wasted money on an imitation and now you have to reorder a whole new system. Do it right the first time with Lagun.

There are also Lagun accessories available (and more coming soon!) that will only fit Lagun Registered Trademark products. With our options, you have the opportunity to expand your system down the road, allowing you to use the same table leg in multiple locations, making the possibilities endless. We are here for you!! Team Lagun is all about quality, function and happy customers who use the product and expect dependability. Your table leg is something you use all the time – an item that needs to perform and work time and again without fail!

How to Quickly Spot a Lagun® Knockoff?

Because the Chinese use deceptive terms like “Lagoon” or “Laguna”, it’s easy to get tricked. Look for listings with words like “Adjustable Table Leg”, “RV Swivel Table Leg“, “360°” or “Removable RV Leg” because they don’t have a brand name to use. To ensure you are buying a genuine system, look for these indicators:

Price:

The Original Lagun® price point is based on quality. Sure, you can go to Amazon, AliExpress, Temu or even Walmart’s website and find a knockoff table leg for under $100 but the price itself is a red flag. If it doesn’t say Lagun, you don’t have a product. If the price sounds too good to be true, it’s probably not authentic. Lagun® is widely considered the industry standard for RVs and campers for a reason – SWEDISH QUALITY. Saving $100 on a dupe sounds great until you hold it in your hands and think…WHAT is this piece of garbage and why did I waste 80 bucks on it!

Finish:

The Original Swedish Lagun® is made of high quality anodized aluminum, not painted rust-prone metal. Anodized aluminum is a hardened coating that will not chip, flake or peel. It is low maintenance, scratch and stain resistant. The quality of the aluminum is unreal and there is nothing like it on the planet!! Lagun® aluminum is smelted in Sweden. Visibly higher in quality and feel!!

Painted finishes are unpredictable and sure to have uneven coatings. The knock offs ALL have a painted, rough, cheap finish. The coating is speckled and uneven, resulting in the Leg getting stuck when being adjusted, rendering it useless. In the off chance you are able to adjust the leg, the surface gets scratched away every time you slide it up or down, killing the ability to tighten and lock into place. With a REAL Lagun®, the tolerances have been perfected & the materials used are of Swedish quality, ensuring flawless function.

Handle:

The Original Lagun® handles are heavy duty plastic with a stainless steel insert and are able to be repositioned once locked in place. The knockoffs use low grade plastic or cast-alloy handles that are prone to stripping or breaking under pressure. They are difficult to use while the original Lagun® handles are easy to use one handed, work effortlessly to lock your table in place, keeping it where you want it and they last.

Bracket:

The Original Lagun® Standard Bracket has 4 bolt holes. The knockoffs often have 6 bolt holes as a marketing strategy to portray more stability than ours. This is simply not true. Don’t fall for their gimmicks. The system is only as stable as the bracket installation. Ensuring you are mounting the bracket to a solid vertical surface (not a piece of paneling or fiberglass) is key.

Logo:

The Original Lagun® stamping has changed over the years. Previous versions included stickers on the Arms and Legs, whereas the newer versions are also now stamped “Lagun” on the bushings, bolts and more. Most knockoffs have no branding, while a few others have created a ‘brand name’ but it doesn’t say Lagun! These knockoffs have tried to imitate Lagun®, however, none of them carry the authentic Lagun® name, and they have nowhere near the same quality standards. The brand name is a name you can’t pronounce, and the manufacturer is located overseas.

Where to Purchase an authentic Lagun® Table Leg System?

The Original Lagun® should be purchased directly from authorized distributors like LAGUN USA, Sprinterfreak of Canada or Lagun of Sweden. We also supply trusted, established RV/Van manufacturers and upfitters. If you’re questioning whether a table leg is an Original Lagun® product, please email us at info@lagunusa.com with your photos or the website link for assistance.

The Final Verdict: Making the Right Investment for Your Build

During the COVID Era, the RV and Vanlife market saw a significant increase in demand. Social distancing forced people to think outside the box for entertainment and camping became everyone’s new favorite hobby. Lagun® set the benchmark for quality adjustable table legs in mobile and compact living spaces, so it’s no surprise copycats started crawling out of the woodwork.

Buying a cheap dupe means you will likely end up buying a real Lagun down the road anyway to replace the broken clone—costing you more time, money, and hassle.
